Pilates

Joseph Pilates created the “Art of Contrology,” in the early 1900s, which is what we now know as the Pilates Method. The Pilates Method promotes musculo-skeletal balance, proper breathing and spinal alignment. The exercises combine control of the abdominals, lower back, hips and buttocks with ease of movement and mental focus. The emphasized focus is on restoring the body to its true balance.

The Pilates Method of body conditioning is not meant to be a strenuous, arduous, or exhausting technique. In fact, the goal is actually the opposite – by allowing the movement to stretch your body as you simultaneously work on the strengthening elements, you are trying to connect to the ability of creating a “habit of relaxed effort” for your body. We are far too used to straining ourselves in the effort to strengthen our muscles. With guidance, we can learn to enjoy the movements themselves.
